Jack and Slide
Set heavy pieces without a crane. AFD performs jack and slide with our own crew and our own equipment.
What Is Jack and Slide?
Jack and slide is a way to set heavy pieces without a crane. Hydraulic jacks lift the load, and then it slides along steel track into its final position.
The load is raised in small, controlled steps on timber cribbing. Once it is at the right height, it is moved sideways along the track and lowered onto its foundation or pad.
We use it to set transformers, data center modules, vessels, and other heavy equipment in places where a crane can’t reach or won’t fit.

When It’s Needed
Jack and slide is a good fit when a crane is not practical for the final set.
No Crane Access
Overhead lines, structures, or soft ground can keep a crane from setting up close enough to make the lift.
Tight Spaces
Substations, equipment rooms, and crowded sites often leave little room. The load can be moved into place a short distance at a time.
Setting on Foundations
Transformers, modules, vessels, and heavy machinery can be set onto their foundations or pads in a controlled way.
How It Works
01
Plan the set
Review the load, the site, and the final position before work starts.
02
Jack up
Hydraulic jacks raise the load in steps while timber cribbing is built up underneath.
03
Slide
The load slides along steel track to its final position.
04
Set down
The load is lowered onto its foundation and the track and cribbing are removed.
Our Crew, Our Equipment
We perform jack and slide with our own crew and our own equipment.
